It is important to minimise the stress of moving, people often don’t realise how much is involved. Whether its forgetting to empty the attic or disassembling complicated furniture, follow these 5 practical steps and your move will go a lot more smoothly.
- Disassemble wardrobes – Flat pack wardrobes do not move well assembled, stress on the joints weakens them. The best way to minimise damage is to disassemble them. We can do this for you, just let us know to allow for extra time.
- Use proper moving boxes, of a similar size to ease loading of the van(s). Medium and large sizes are all you should need, plus may’be wardrobe boxes. Second hand boxes scraped together from friends or shops are often not strong enough and are difficult to stack in the van, due to their erratic sizes.
- For furniture which has drawers, the drawers should be emptied. Leave the drawers in the furniture, we will know whether we should move them with the drawers in or out (depends on how strong the furniture is, its weight and access to property).
- Keep a bag for day to day needs. We’ve all done it, moved, and then frantically searched for your purse or wallet! So keep a bag or box for essential day to day items, such as purse, phone, basic toiletries, medicines, laptop, towels, etc.
- Do not tape drawers/doors on furniture shut. When we turn up to a move, we sometimes find that customers have used sticking tape to secure drawers or doors on their furniture. There is no need for this, as we use belts with self locking mechanism to secure things. Sticking tape can damage your furniture, and our ‘cam belts’ will do a much better job at securing things.
